Bridging a wide temperature range in a thermal oil system with only one heat transfer medium is particularly challenging.

To solve this problem, several physical ones must be usedparameters of the medium must be optimally coordinated. Marlotherm® XC is Eastman’s thermal oil, which has these conditions in an excellent way.

Marlotherm® XC, is an excellent synthetic organic heat transfer fluid, designed for use in the liquid phase in a closed system with forced oil steam circulation. Because of its wide application range between -90 and + 153 ° C in pressureless circuits and its superior physical and thermal properties in this temperature range, Marlotherm® XC is best equipped for many heat transfer processes. Heating and cooling circuits can work simultaneously with this medium.

Marlotherm® XC pressurized systems suitable for temperatures above 153 ° C. The maximum operating temperature corresponds to a boiler outlet temperature of 300 ° C and the film temperature must not exceed 320 ° C.

Marlotherm® XC is the ideal thermal fluid for heating and cooling in the most varied field of applications, for example for multipurpose applications in the fine chemicals, specialty chemicals and the pharmaceutical industries. It will be appreciated that the same applies in systems where a thermal fluid has to supply different users with different temperature levels.

Marlotherm® XC, is an inert, aromatic hydrocarbon with excellent thermal stability up to operating temperatures of 300 ° C, even after many years of use.
Due to its superior thermal conductivity, Marlotherm® XC can be used within a temperature range of -90 to 300 ° C. Even at very low operating temperatures, the pumps require little power due to the low viscosity of the liquid.

Marlotherm® XC can be circulated well with single stage centrifugal pumps fitted with mechanical seals at temperatures as low as -90 ° C.

It is recommended to run Marlotherm® XC circuits with an inert gas at a pressure of 50-200 mbar on the expansion vessel. Nitrogen has proven to be an excellent inert gas for this. When the thermal oil system operates at different temperatures, the nitrogen pressure on the expansion tank will prevent moisture from entering the system during the cooling cycle. At higher temperatures, the nitrogen blanket will provide the best protection against oxidation of the liquid.

At operating temperatures above the boiling point of Marlotherm® XC, it is necessary to achieve a nitrogen pressure sufficient to keep the medium in the liquid phase to prevent the heat transfer medium from evaporating through the expansion vessel.
